Bas Uterwijk is an Amsterdam-based artist using AI to create extremely lifelike photographs of historical figures and monuments such as Vincent van Gogh, George Washington, and the Statue of Liberty.

Uterwijk created the portrait of Lady Liberty by inputting several photographs of the statue into an app which uses the portraits of both real people and painted faces to generate an image. Once an image has been generated, Uterwijk can either refine the image himself using traditional methods or adjust the commands given to the AI to improve the result. He considers his work as more of an artistic interpretation rather than something scientifically or historically accurate.
